“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides…. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.”
Today my family suffers a tremendous loss of our family matriarch my beautiful Nana. If you know me on a personal level then you know how incredibly dear to my heart she was and how much I talked about her to everyone who would lend an ear. She was an amazing women with the most love in her heart I have ever seen. She was never selfish, or angry. She exuded kindness, compassion, empathy and always listened with such great intent. Because of her and her beautiful daughter(my mom) I learned to read before kindergarten, I learned to laugh, to appreciate all forms of music(specifically the piano which was my Nanas instrument, she was self taught might I add), to appreciate the little moments, to love unconditionally, to value nature and the list goes on and on. Growing up she helped my mom raise me and I would spend hours by her side doing chores, cooking, sitting outside under her Ramada on her bench. She would tell me wonderful stories of my family, or make up fairy tales that I cherished. I’d sit on that piano bench and listen to her play and was always in awe how beautifully and happily she played, her soul leaked into her music. We used to talk about Paris and she gifted me a book on Paris one year, I said one day I would go! When I finally did I brought her back a green scarf and she smiled and said you did it how wonderful and she joked how fancy she was now! She was a gentle human being who brought peace and solidarity to those around her. She would always make the most beautiful clothes and presented herself with the presence of a queen the way she carried herself and how dainty and petite she was. We’d spend so much time doing puzzles together and every time I’d come back we would gush about how far along she got and what area she wanted me to work on. She taught me the importance of a clean house and the pride you should have in maintaining it. That one could always find god and comfort in the outdoors amongst the plants and trees, or mountains. She would have me read to her for hours on end. I can remember most of our discussions and that’s what I will cherish because I can still hear her voice and our conversations, our laughs, I will forever cherish our little moments, and every time I eat something tasty or sweet I will know it’s a treat and to be valued because that’s how she saw everything she ate. She raised 7 amazing kids all strong and exuding different strengths, she leaves behind an incredible legacy filled with over 125 of us we sorta lost count but there’s a lot of us descended from her. She lived to be 96 and she leaves a giant hole in our hearts but I know she was proud of everyone of us and she celebrated all of our successes no matter how big or small everything was always a win and she would clap and laugh. This was who she was and the love and beauty in her heart will prolly never be matched but we will do our best to come close. I’m thankful that my mom had experience in hospice care and was able to provide that round the clock care and had such strength and grace that of her mother’s that she was able to give her love and tender care to help her mom pass peacefully and with grace and dignity. There’s no one else I would’ve chosen, and to my mom you’re still one of the most amazing people! I can see where you get it from….you have the same heart as your glorious mother and my nana. My broken heart goes out to my family I know the pain we all feel but we were blessed to have such a amazing person in our lives and someone who loved us all unconditionally! Rest In Peace Nana I will carry you in my heart always, and think of you every time I do something that reminds me of you which is a lot! I love you ever so much forever and always! Thank you and give my Tio’s and my little sisters all a hug for me I miss them and I’ll continue to try and make you all proud!
