Obituary of Guy Dorr

Father Dorr was born Nov 22, 1939 in Fort Worth, Texas. The family moved to Colorado in 1949 and subsequently to Arizona in 1958. Guy attended Arizona State University, (ASU) where he graduated with a BS degree and a commission in the US Army in 1962. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served honorably for 24 years. In those succeeding years he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served at numerous posts in the United States, as well as overseas, including Germany, Thailand and Vietnam. For his service in Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry with Palms. Later, in his assignment roles as a Foreign Area Officer, Guy received graduate school training at the Universities of Arkansas and Tennessee, receiving Master Degrees in Eurasian Studies, Philosophy and World Religion. After completing his military career in 1986, Guy entered Seminary at Yale University the same year. While at Yale he earned the Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees and was ordained in the Episcopal Church in 1989. For the next 14 years he served in the parish ministry in both New York and Alabama, retiring from the active ministry in 2003. After his retirement, Guy returned to Arizona and established a joint state domicile in Tucson and Prescott. He also became active in volunteer service with the Navajo Indian Communities in Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Finally, in 2004, Guy was received in the Antiochian branch of the Orthodox Church and became a member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Community. Guy is survived by two sons, Scott and Mark Dorr, five grandchildren, Marrissa, Morganna, Christian , Cindy and Christopher, and one brother, Dr. Eugene Dorr.
