Doc Ramage was the most enthusiastic and kind professor. His joy for his work, birds, and life just drew you in. I was blessed to work with him one barley crossing season. I'll never forget his warmth and wisdom. He loved eating the empanadas his wife made for lunch and teaching us with such care about the beauty of life's creatures. This is 20 years ago and he made such a difference in my life that I remember that time vividly. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.

Mrs. Ramage & family: I recently saw the notice of Tom's death on 12/27/10 in the daily paper. It was my privilege to get to know Tom very well when I was assigned as the USDA/ARS Area Director for Arizona & New Mexico in 1972. When I got that appointment, Gus Wiebe told me to take good care of Tom & his research program as he considered Tom the best scientist in the Barley Research Branch of Cereal Crops. I attempted to do that while Area Director 1972-1976. It was my pleasure to work with Tom in an administrative capacity, and as Gus Wiebe said, Tom was truly an outstanding scientist and good friend. I was able to help Dave Reid reassigned from Beltsville to Tucson to work with Tom around 1972.
My sincere condolences to you & your family as you cope with Tom's passing.
Most sincerely,
Ed Kendrick
